Dental Health New Year’s Resolutions

Many people set ambitious New Year’s resolutions, only to forget about them by Valentine’s Day. This year, focus on your dental health with small, doable resolutions.

Floss Once a Day

Yes, this may seem like a no-brainer, but did you know a study by the Center for Disease Control found that nearly one-third of American adults never floss, and more than 37 percent floss less than once a day? Search “How to Floss” on YouTube for a quick tutorial to kick-start your flossing habit.

Quit Smoking

Need more motivation to quit smoking this year? Smoking and using tobacco products lead to discolored teeth, bad breath, gum disease and tooth loss. Make 2020 the year you quit smoking – for your overall health and dental health.

Cut Out Sugar or Sugary Drinks

January is the month many people start a new diet, hoping to shed those holiday pounds. Instead of trying out a difficult fad diet, keep it simple this year and focus on cutting out sugar (including honey, maple syrup and other sweet sugar substitutes). If that is too difficult, cut out sugary drinks. After all, it’s the simple lifestyle changes that are easiest to maintain. Cutting out sugar is good for your body and your teeth.

Choose one, two or all three of these dental health New Year’s resolutions. When you ring in 2021 you will have something good to celebrate – one whole year of improved dental health!
